Gold Medal Ales are produced monthly
in recognition of some of the 'greats' of history. In July 1568, the distinguished cleric Dr Alexander Nowell, Dean of St. Pauls, accidentally discovered bottled beer. He decanted some beer into a bottle for a fishing expedition, but during the afternoon he lost it in the long grass. He found it again several days later. By then he described it thus " No bottle, but a gun, so great was the sound". However the beer was still perfectly drinkable and eventually became a popular way for a brewer to present his wares to the public. |
